Title: A Healing Spirit
Author: Melissa Hanson
“You make your own destiny.”
A freak ski accident brings nineteen-year old Mia Kinney within minutes of death. Hurt and scared, Mia is calmed by the southern drawl and clear green eyes of her rescuer. Twenty-one year old Dylan Blackburn is one of the first Ski Patrol members on the scene.
As his patient is airlifted to the local trauma center, he can’t shake her from his thoughts. As Mia fights for her life, Dylan, is haunted by the blonde hair beauty, and knows he needs to make sure she’s going to be okay.
With a troubled past Dylan has vowed never to completely open himself up to another girl, but Mia continues to knock down every wall he’s constructed.
When his past arrives at his front door and threatens once again someone that he loves, will Dylan be able to save Mia yet again? Or will he be too late this time?
A story of love, friendship, and the determination to turn a horrible experience into something worthwhile.
This is the second book of the Riverview series and the story is about Mia, one of Bailey’s best friend on the first book. This story took place in their college years, Mia was still in Riverview while Bailey and Natasha were studying in other places. It was another well-written, fast paced book. In the Author’s note at the back, it was written that this story was based on a true event.
One big miracle happened, after falling from thirty-feet of a chairlift in a mountain, Mia still survived and then there he met Dylan, who will later on become his boyfriend. After her fall, Quinn, Natasha’s brother and one of her closest friends, have this weird feeling, the feeling he only realized when Mia was between a life and death situation, he was falling for Mia.
This story doesn’t just revolve around love and friendship, but it also revolves around family. As I read the story, the dark past of Dylan will slowly be revealed, the main reason why Dylan’s previous girlfriends left him, because they can’t bare it. Dylan had put his guards up, but as time pass by when he was with Mia, everything changes. When he told his dark past to Mia, she accepted it and still stayed by his side.
After Mia’s fall, she felt that she decided to do something, something that will help other Ski goers to be more careful. She thought that she should do it because maybe it is the reason why she’s still alive, she needs to give back and help other people from falling.
After reading this book, there was a realization that came in my mind, “there is no right time, enjoy every moment” because you will never know what will happen with your life, and sometimes we are not lucky enough to have second chances, sometimes it just ends right there. If we are ever lucky to receive a second chance, then maybe we should do something to give back, like how Mia decided to help the other skiers. And we should never forget that miracles do happen. ❤
