One of the secrets of the universe was that our instincts were sometimes stronger than our minds.”

A lyrical novel about family and friendship from the critically acclaimed author Benjamin Alire Sáenz.

Aristotle is an angry teen with a brother in prison. Dante is a know-it-all who has an unusual way of looking at the world. When the two meet at the swimming pool, they seem to have nothing in common. But as the loners start spending time together, they discover that they share a special friendship—the kind that changes lives and lasts a lifetime. And it is through this friendship that Ari and Dante will learn the most important truths about themselves and the kind of people they want to be.

I would say that this book is almost perfect, but then, I was still looking for something. If I can describe this book in one word it would be BEAUTIFUL. Yes it is not perfect, but I love how everything falls in the story. Right from the very start when Ari met Dante in the swimming pool area. I love how their friendship changed their hearts and lives forever. As Ari and Dante question and discover their identity, heritage, and sexuality they form a bond so strong that it reaches out to readers as well.

One of the things that I loved about this book: FAMILY. Each of them both have these amazing parents that was with them all through out. While the boys were searching for the Universe, their parents was highlighted there. You can really feel the love of the parents, especially the mothers. Families are a big part of our lives and who we are in life. And of course I will not forget about Legs, Ari’s dog.

This book just opened my eyes about some things like the love of Dante to Ari, the LGBT. That sometimes we just fall in love with someone not just because of their physical looks, but rather because they make us happy. They are a part of us and without them we can’t be ourselves, we feel like we are different.

I would definitely recommend this book for everyone. This story is not just about love, but rather it’s about discovering yourself. You will surely love Ari and Dante. You will feel like you are on a journey to discover the secrets of the universe, that sometimes the answers are just right beside you all along. The Universe is you. You need to discover yourself. And that was what this book was about. Discovering one’s true self.
